The Short Count: Mary Jo Bolduc

mj2.JPGMary Jo first came to New Leaf last fall as Peg in Six Years and we are pleased as punch to have her with us again.  She is the Assistant Artistic Director for WNEP, and when asked where her favorite vacation spot might be, she wisely replied “anywhere with beaches, booze, and boys!”  I will take that vacation with her any time.

1. In a word, today I feel.. relieved

2. I am a theatre artist because…creating something known from something unknown with a newly acquainted group of people that just happen to trust each other, and fearlessly throw themselves into an uncertain process, simply because in their hearts they believe that this is the best way to make something – is magic to me. And, quite frankly, it just makes sense in my head.

3. I am a theatre artist in Chicago because… I’m lucky – and grateful.

4. In regards to The Long Count:

               a) Today, I am most excited about…

the times when we stop ourselves from talking and over-analyzing a moment or a scene, and instead play around with the idea of that moment or the idea of that scene as a group. Together, we always come up with something better if we ‘do it’ instead of ‘talk it’.

               b) Today, I am asking myself this question… ‘What’s next?!’

5. Five years ago, I thought… when is it gonna be my turn?

6. Five years from now, I… I do what I love with people I love, and therefore, it is always my turn.

7. In a word, how do we build a future from a present we didn’t expect? Step-by-step. (Hey – No jumping steps, buddy! Each one of em count. Yeah, I’m talking to you!)
