Synchronicity

One of the things about working on a show is how the universe seems to be sensitive to what your’re doing and provides you with moments that spur insight or the appearance of synchronicity. I know it’s largely a function of our minds and not necesarily of the universe, (although hey, let’s not rule it out) that we pick out those sights and sounds that trigger thoughts of what we’re working on, while others that do not trigger anything fade to the background, but it still makes things seem more alive with magic and portent. The song or album that you discover (or rediscover) that suddenly seems created specifically for this play, the photograph you find that looks like one of the characters does, even the weather on a particular day. 

Then, there’s this (which Kaitlin, who plays Iris, found): http://www.thislife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=351 Yes, that’s right, the This American Life episode for our opening weekend is all about people revisiting childhood memories. Apparently, God smiles upon our endeavor. So watch the show, then listen to the episode and see what happens, eh?
